Good morning. Today is Friday, February 10, and these are your morning announcements.

Happy birthday today to: Thomas Shaw and Caroline Snyder.

Today’s fact for Black History Month is Musician Louis Armstrong earned the nickname “Satchmo” from his peers. The name was short for “satchelmouth”, a reference to the way he puffed his cheeks when he played his trumpet.  Don’t forget to pick up your locker tag in the main office.

Seniors:  It’s time to submit your “Then & Now” pictures to the yearbook. Recreate a childhood photo with a friend, and submit both to the Yearbook by March 1st. Hard copies can be placed in the box in the Main Office. See Ms. Burke in 240 with questions.

Students: check out the job board located in the hallway outside of the guidance office.  There are several new jobs posted.

Key Club will sponsor a classroom competition between teachers and bake sales of breakfast items to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. There will be a meeting Monday in the media center to vote for the class officers for the 2012-2013 year.  Also, Anthony Thomas Candy Money AND Busy Bags for Nationwide Children’s Hospital are due.

Cultural Awareness Club will be selling necklaces at lunch periods this week. They will be delivered on February 14th along with a message for the recipient. Necklaces are $2.00 each

Juniors and seniors: ITT Technical Institute is hosting an open house this Saturday, February 11th from 10-11. There is also an informational nursing seminar from 11:00a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  See Mrs. Sohl for more information.

There is an IMPACT Youth Leadership Development workshop at DeVry University on Saturday, March 3 from 9a.m.-4 p.m. the cost is $15.00.  For more information visit: ohexploring.com/leadership

There will be a presentation on Weds., 2/15, period 3 on how to apply to military academies, example – West Point, Air Force.  Please sign up in the guidance office if you are interested.

Carnations will be sold during all lunch periods starting today, Thursday, and running through next Monday.  Carnations can be purchased in a variety of colors and are $1.00 each.  Stop by the trophy case to send your love to your BFF or your FBO! Flowers will be delivered on Valentine’s Day.

Seniors: Jostens will deliver your graduation products on Tuesday, February 14th during the senior picture. Please bring your final payment; invoices have been mailed home. Contact Jostens with questions.

English OGT prep will be held after school in the Write Place. Please see your English teacher with questions.

Those interested in intramural boxing – you have until Wednesday, February 15 to register.  If interested, please see Mr. Bobek.

Renaissance is currently collecting gently used jeans for the “Teens for Jeans” project to benefit less fortunate teenagers.  Drop off a pair in the Attendance Office, the Fees Office, or room 173, and get a coupon for 25% off a new pair of jeans at Aeropostale!  If you have any questions please see Chris Martin.

Softball tryouts will begin February 21st from 6:30 – 8:15. Check with Coach Forte or Coach Speakman with any questions and a schedule of times. Make sure you have an updated physical and all the other appropriate paperwork.

Any boy interested in trying out for baseball this spring who missed the meeting Thursday needs to see coach Biddinger, coach Bauer, or coach Scally to pick up paperwork.  Practice will begin on Monday, February 20.

The Hilliard JV Hockey Team beat Olentangy Liberty 10-1. Their regular season ends this weekend with 3 big games!  They take on St. Charles TONIGHT at Chiller North at 7:30pm. Saturday, they play Dublin Green at Dublin Chiller at 8pm. Sunday they play Dublin White at 3:10pm at Easton Chiller.  These games will determine if Hilliard JV will place 1st in conference going into the end-of-season tournament.
